ACM NCNA Contest Schedule

The 2018 ACM North Central North America
Regional Programming Contest

Contest Schedule

Try to register online at the ACM Regional Contest web site by October 9, 2018 which is the end of Early Registration. Up to this date, the priority of the sites is to maximize the number of schools represented, and thus may restrict the number of teams per school in order to ensure this. Following this date, sites may decide to accept additional teams per school, up to their capacity.

If you must register after October 9, 2018, a late fee of $10 (US) per person on top the (new) registration fee of $25 per person will be assessed at the time the team is accepted by the site. (Do not pay until your team is accepted!) Note that the late fee is assessed only if registration is late, not if acceptance by the site is delayed.

Before October 27, 2018, contact the director of the site at which your team will participate to obtain any site-specific information and a pre/post contest activity schedule.

central standard time

Contest Day (November 3, 2018) Activities

8:00 AM - 9:00 AM ARRIVAL AND CHECK-IN
Teams arrive and report to the site director. It is suggested that access to computers for practice be permitted during this time. Ideally a simple sample problem will be posed, and teams will have an opportunity to submit solutions to the sample problem for judging.
9:00 AM - 10:45 AM CONTESTANTS' MEETING
Site Director meets with the teams to review the rules and discuss site specific policies. It is suggested that any remaining time be used for additional practice and/or a brunch.
9:00 AM - 10:45 AM JUDGES' MEETING
Site Head Judge meets with the team coaches who serve as judges. Contest problems are opened and discussed, and judging duties are determined. Sites for which judges are provided should still permit coaches to observe if they wish. Judges should not simply depend on the Kattis sytem to determine incorrect solutions. They should take advantage of the power of Kattis to delve into the code and data in order to verify the cause. Brunch for the judges is also suggested during this time period.
10:45 AM - 11:00 AM CONTEST STATIONS
Teams report to the contest area and judges report to the judging center. Sealed contest questions and necessary contest materials are distributed to the teams.
11:00 AM CONTEST BEGINS
Contestants open the contest question packets, boot up their machines (according to whatever procedure the site has), and begin.
3:45 PM 15-MINUTE WARNING
Contestants are notified that the contest will end in 15 minutes.
4:00 PM CONTEST ENDS
Final judging requests must have arrived prior to 4:00 PM. Final site results are tabulated by the judges.
4:00 PM - 5:00 PM REGIONAL RESULTS
Kattis will have preliminary results for the region as well as the sites. Regional results remain unofficial until they are verified by the Regional Head Judge and any appeals have been decided.
